I am aware of Saskatchewan families who have explored the possibility of
adoption from the US foster care system after attending conference
presentations by American speakers. These families learn that many states
actively recruit, they see photos of American children on the web and they
KNOW, from personal experience, they are not going to adopt from care locally.
In our province adopting from care is rare, mostly to foster families. Until
Canadian provincial governments expect children to have permanent families, as
opposed to living in long term foster care, and begin to release children for
adoption and recruit adoptive families, prospective adopters have no choice but
to seek children elsewhere.
