The Wednesday food drive for Transit strikers at the University of
Minnesota was a great success. In addition to cash donations, they hauled
1000 pounds of food to the distribution center.

People have written me offlist that they couldn't make it to the U
yesterday on such short notice, but want to contribute. This is second
hand information from the guy who organized yesterday's food drive:

Donations are being accepted at the Labor Temple, University Ave. SE at
Central Ave. just east of the 3rd Ave. Bridge and across from Eastgate
Shopping Center. There is ample parking in the back (pay lot) and a
municipal parking ramp just a block away at 2nd Ave. and 2nd St. SE--I
think the entrance is on 2nd Ave--cost is 75 cents for an hour's parking.
There is also occasional on the street metered parking--just keep circling.
Play fair and don't fill up the strip mall parking lot, please, even for
"just a few minutes."

The donation center is on the 5th floor of the Labor Temple.

Both cash and real stuff are welcomed. If you choose to donate cash, I
understand they use it to buy grocery store gift certificates and hand
those out, so all cash donations go right to the strikers.

The response of donations, cash and inquiry was just wonderful!

Thanks, Good People, and pat yourselves on the back.
