HOW DOES MINNESOTA COMPARE IN PROVIDING LOW-INCOME SUPPORTS?

What has happened since supports for low-income families shifted from the federal to state governments? The US General Accounting Office examines this issue and shares the results in a recent report.

Included in the GAO's information-packed report:
* the supports provided, including a brief overview of the recent changes
* a case study of 5 states, including nearby Wisconsin
* the future of state support programs.
And, the set of appendices include multiple state-by-state analyses of supports received by eligible applicants, the number of recipients, and the availability of supports.

The entire report (70+ pages) is available at www.gao.gov/cgi-bin/getrpt?GAO-04-256

(Thanks to Jim Anderson at Ramsey County Human Services for bringing this report to our attention).
